Simplified Fable 23: Lupus in Ovis Pelle

Now that I have finished the Segmented Grammar Commentaries on the fables (see the Complete Fables List for links), I'll be working through the fables again, this time providing "Simplified" versions of the fables. So, here is today's Simplified fable - Fable 23: Lupus in Ovis Pelle, a story the fate that awaits the wolf in sheep's clothing.

The original version is as follows:

Lupus, Ovis pelle indutus, Ovium se immiscuit gregi, quotidieque aliquam ex eis occidebat. Quod cum Pastor animadvertisset, illum in altissima arbore suspendit. Interrogantibus autem ceteris Pastoribus cur Ovem suspendisset, respondebat, “Pellis quidem est Ovis, opera autem erant Lupi.”

Here are the simplified sentences as they appear in the slideshow:

Lupus Ovis pelle indutus est.

Lupus se immiscuit gregi.

Lupus Ovium se immiscuit gregi.

Lupus, Ovis pelle indutus, Ovium se immiscuit gregi.

Lupus Ovem aliquam occidebat.

Lupus aliquam ex Ovibus occidebat.

Lupus aliquam ex eis occidebat.

Quotidie Lupus aliquam ex eis occidebat.

Pastor hoc animadvertit!

Pastor Lupum suspendit.

Pastor Lupum in arbore suspendit.

Pastor Lupum in altissima arbore suspendit.

Cum Pastor hoc animadvertisset, Lupum in altissima arbore suspendit.

Interrogabant ceteri Pastores:

"Cur Ovem suspendisti?"

Pastor respondebat:

Interrogantibus ceteris Pastoribus cur Ovem suspendisset, respondebat:

“Pellis eius est pellis Ovis."

"Opera eius erant opera Lupi.”

“Pellis quidem est Ovis, opera autem erant Lupi.”
