Fabula Facilis: Divitiae et Simulacrum Sacrum

Vir quidam
ligneam statuam domi habet,
simulacrum nescio cuius divi.
Hanc statuam sacram assidue colit,
et sertis ornat,
petens a divo divitias et opes.
Hoc facit longo tempore, sed frustra:
non modo res eius non augentur,
sed etiam diminuuntur.
Vir ergo iratus est!
Statuam pedibus apprehendit,
et terrae infligit.
Statuae caput,
forte in saxum illisum,
effractum est
et effunditur aurum,
quod in eo inclusum
erat.
Aurum colligens, vir dicit,
"Magna est perversitas tua, O dive!
Me
neglegebas, te venerantem,
at, te affligentem, nunc ditas."
